Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange info between a website hosting server and a client. Because the information exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of controlling a hosting account. The commands which could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for instance, the possibilities are limited because you'll not have root access to the hosting server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. These are all actions that are executed inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall be able to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are a number of apps for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

If the shared hosting package that you’ve chosen through the signup process provides SSH access by default, you'll be able to activate this function with a click inside your Hepsia Control Panel. If you have chosen a different plan, the SSH access feature can be included via the Upgrades menu and it will become available at once. All the info which you need connect will be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You may also set what password to use from the same spot and you will be able to modify it whenever you want. All commands that are permitted are listed inside the Help articles that we have prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax which you should use. An additional advantage of permitting SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided by default with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you could include it through the hosting Control Panel if required - even only for the current month. In any case, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with a single click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box where you could type the password which you want to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you can also change it as often as you require. A complete list of the commands that can be performed inside a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and several instances. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

All our VPS server packages include SSH access as standard, so you will not have to include any upgrades or enable anything - the second the server is set up and you receive its login information, you will be able to connect via its primary IP address and the login credentials that you've picked throughout the signup procedure. Due to the fact that the VPS accounts come with full root-level access, there are no restrictions in terms of the commands that you could run. Your server shall be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage more or less everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. In this way, you may work with your files, databases and any apps you install in a fast and protected way.
